Epilepsy - Treatment with Neurofeedback, EEG Biofeedback

Epilepsy (sometimes referred to as a seizure disorder) is a neurological condition that makes people prone to seizures.

A seizure is a change in sensory, awareness or behavior caused by a brief electrical disturbance in the brain. Seizures can vary from a momentary distruption of the senses, to short periods of unconsciousness, to staring spells or convulsions. Although seizures may present themselves differently they are all caused by the same thing, a sudden change in how the cells in the brain send electrical signals to each other.

Epilepsy can be caused by anything that effects the brain such as head trauma, brain damage, brain surgery, brain tumor, high fever, bacterial or viral encephalitis, stroke and disturbances of metabolism.

In many cases of epilepsy, an electroencephalogram (EEG) can also be used to detect abnormal electrical activity in the brain, either during or between seizures.

An alternative and efficient treatment for epilepsy is Neurofeedback or EEG biofeedback. (also sometimes referred to as neurotherapy or brain wave therapy). This treatment is a non-invasive computerized process that works to retrain brainwaves to function in a normal state, providing long-term results and minimal side effects.
