Tourette's Syndrome is a neurological disorder which is characterized by continuously occuring tics. These tics can be sudden movements or vocalizations that may be simultaneous or can occur many times a day, almost everyday or repeatedly throughout a duration of more than one year.
Currently, there are no medications that specifically target the symptoms of Tourtette's Syndrome. However, there are medications that are available to help when symptoms interfere with normal functioning.
Most people with Tourette's Syndrome do not require medication, as it is used only to help reduce specific symptoms. Using Neuroleptic and antihypertensive drugs may result in long and short-term side effects.
An alternative and efficient treatment for Tourette's Syndrome is Neurofeedback or EEG biofeedback.(sometimes referred to as neurotherapy or brain wave therapy). This method is a non-invasive computerized process that works to retrain brainwaves to function in a normal state, providing long-term results and minimal side effects.
